About CBS Radio Bamenda FM 101.0 MHz
Radio is the foremost preoccupation of the Presbyterian Communication Department. When the Department started in 1968 the workers wrote their scripts in the office and took them to Radio Buea for recording and broadcast. In 1978, the Department installed a professional Recording Studio and could record its programs and only carry the tape to Radio Buea for transmission. As that went on, plans were afoot to open and operate a Church Radio Station. The idea ran into gear when the Cameroon government ceased having a monopoly over the airwaves, giving room for private radio stations to open and operate across the country. The Church availed herself of the opportunity and started the Christian Broadcasting Service (CBS) Radio FM 95.3. The test signals went on the air on Saturday February 21, 2004, and on February 26, 2006, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon- the then Rt Rev. Dr. Nyansako-ni-Nku dedicated the Station to the glory of God and the service of His people. Given the primordial role the CBS Radio Buea plays and the appreciation from the audience, the Synod of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, meeting at Church Centre Mankon Bamenda from 24th – 25th November 2014, resolved that the Communication Department should open another community Radio in Bamenda.
Prior to this moment, even before 1995, the department ran a recording studio at Church Centre Mankon. Here it produced major programmes like, Presbyterian Echoes, Presbyterian Meditation, PCC News and Our Choirs Sing. These programmes were taken to various radio stations like, CRTV Bamenda, Abakwa FM, Radio Hot Coco, CBC Radio, Radio Evangelium, Foundation Radio amongst others for broadcast or airing. On the 20th of January 2017, CBS Bamenda FM 101.0 was launched. It was inaugurated by the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba. CBS Bamenda FM 101 is located at the Church Hill, Ntamulung, Bamenda in Mezam Division. It’s signals covers the entire Bamenda and its environs. It has as motto, that in every way Christ is proclaimed. Drawn from Philippians 1: 18. It has as one of its principal slogans; CBS Radio, at the center of the community.
The Station produces both christians and public affairs programs and It broadcasts in English, French and Pidgin English and some Cameroon national languages. It is a 24/7 broadcast station (broadcasts every day of the week). The Radio has two shifts of work that span from 6:00 am to 10:30 pm. That is, Morning Shift (6:00 am – 2:00 pm) and Afternoon Shift (2:00pm – 10: 30pm). CBS Bamenda is an online radio which streams on mixlr.com/cbsbamenda. CBS Buea has a facebook account and page( Cbs Bamenda and CBS Radio Bamenda FM 101.0).
CBS Radio FM 101.0 produces about 100 programs every week. This is due to the commendable effort of 15 staff and about 50 volunteers called Voluntary External Broadcasters (VEBS) who produce and present programs at the Station. We have a staff strength of 15 persons; 7 journalists, 4 technicians, 1 finance office officer and 3 auxiliary staff. CBS Bamenda stands tall in the media landscape of the North West Region and Cameroon at large. It’s a Radio of proximity which looks forward to embracing a national coverage status and to welcome a visual department to become an audiovisual organ.
